Morrison

Iconic Australian Fashion label Morrison has been a partner of Origen since the label’s birth. Like the beloved kelpie cross puppy the label was named after, Morrison’s pieces have become much loved wardrobe staples. Pieces you fall in love with and like Morrison the puppy are reliable all year round, season after season.

The famous ‘good butt pant’, denim Velcro pants ‘the velcros’ which fit and flatter, second skin tees, tanks in longer lengths all form base building blocks for a wearable, reliable wardrobe which you do not have to worry about not being able to replace. Fabrics which have been tried and tested and garments which are proudly manufactured in Western Australia. Morrison supports the philosophy of Origen and is represented throughout Origen stores in Melbourne.

Maiocchi

Maiocchi showcases a love of Japanese fabrics, natural fibres and traditional arts and crafts techniques. Often simple in their cut, Maiocchi garments are personalised with precious handmade details, quirky touches, textures and trims.

Fibre Red

One of the few fashion labels left that source and produce 100% locally. This represents all that is good in supporting and celebrating the local economy while fighting all those messages of gloom and doom.

Created by designer Kim Simon, the range is known for its subtle exploration of colour; classic, simplicity in design; and quality and feel of the garments. Fibre red garments are made from Australian merino wool on domestic knitting machines.

Totem

Summer months at Origèn brings Brazilian label Totem, an original Rio de Janeiro label since 1995. The collection uses striking and beautiful prints that reflect the “Carioca” lifestyle of Brazil – light, bold and spirited. Their exclusive prints are the products of soulful inspiration from travels throughout the globe like, Africa, south and central and North America, Indonesia, India and Australia.

For over 15 years owner Rose Marie Stirling and her mother Elvira Sposito have spent extensive periods of time with the the descendants of the Mayas in the highlands of Guatemala. Strong alliances have been established with artisan families who supply our range of brilliantly hued and embroidered bags.

Our policy of direct trade ensures the money earned goes directly to the artisan. This unique partnership brings self-sufficiency to Indigenous communities and introduces Australians to exquisite handmade fashion.

It is easy to fall in love with this world of timeless cultures where the descendants of the Mayan civilisation work the land and make beautiful handcrafts as they have for centuries.

This life sounds ideal but it is set against a backdrop of oppression and political corruption. Despite the constant struggle to survive, the descendants of these mysterious ancient civilisations have maintained crafts that existed well before the invasion of the Spanish conquistadors and corrupt dictatorships. Origen’s partnership with the artisans means much to the soul of the business. Direct trade ensures the money earned goes directly to the artisan and is not siphoned off into the hands of unscrupulous ‘traders’. Origen’s aim is to ensure the artisans are paid a fair price, and to keep alive these artistic traditions.
